Interpreter I

First-level vocational interpreter who provides language translation in a medical clinic, within a health related program office, or to clients in a state program. Positions at this level develop or assist with communications whenever there may be language barriers in the delivery of services to programs constituents. Duties may include assisting in information flow to or between patients, clients, medical professionals, or the general public in a culturally sensitive manner in order to facilitate communication between the limited-English proficient (LEP) constituents or individuals who are deaf or hearing loss.

Typically requires a High School Diploma or high school equivalency, applicable interpreter certification, and 1-2 years of experience. Must be Mississippi Quality Assurance Level I or II.

Interpreter II

Second-level vocational interpreter who provides language translation in a medical clinic, within a health related program office, or to clients in a state program. Positions at this level develop or assists with communications whenever there may be language barriers in the delivery of services to programs constituents and may include communications that are by their nature more complex or sensitive. Duties may include assisting in information flow to or between patients, clients, medical professionals, or the general public in a culturally sensitive manner in order to facilitate communication between the limited-English proficient (LEP) constituents or individuals who are deaf or hearing loss.

Typically requires a High School Diploma or high school equivalency, applicable interpreter certification, and 2+ years of experience. Must be Mississippi Quality Assurance Level III or higher.
