News MSPB’s Jan Sims Selected to Serve on IPMA-HR Southern Region Board

Jan Sims, MSPB’s director of workforce development, has been selected to serve a two-year term on the International Public Management Association for Human Resources (IPMA-HR) Southern Region Board. Since 1906, IPMA-HR has been a resource for public employees for comprehensive and timely HR industry news, jobs, policies, resources, education, and professional development opportunities.

As MSPB’s director of workforce development, Sims is responsible for overseeing the State’s training programs and professional development courses for nearly 21,000 participants each year.  She has 25 years of experience in Mississippi’s public sector, working previously with the University of Mississippi Medical Center, the Public Employees’ Retirement System, and Mississippi Development Authority, where she customized a leadership development program around the economic development industry.

Sims earned a bachelor’s degree from Delta State University and an MBA from Mississippi College. She is one of only five learning professionals in the State of Mississippi to hold the Certified Professional in Learning and Performance (CPLP) credential from the Association for Talent Development Certification Institute. She was named the 2015 Outstanding Member of the Year by the Mississippi Association of Personnel Administrators. She is a Certified Public Manager (CPM), a Certified Training Professional, and a graduate of the State Executive Development Institute at the John C. Stennis Institute at Mississippi State University.  She is certified to administer the Myers Briggs Type Indicator and FranklinCovey’s 7 Habits of Highly Successful Managers.  Sims has served on local boards with the Mississippi Chapter of the Association for Talent Development, the Mississippi Society of Certified Public Managers, and the College and University Personnel Association. Currently she is currently serving in a board position with the National Certified Public Manager® Consortium.

Jan is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in human capital development from the University of Southern Mississippi. Her dissertation research focuses on increasing retention in the public sector.
